Mini-Reunion Post-Flu Update
|
Mini XXIII was officially canceled because of the swine flu, but about a third of those whose names are listed below were there - either because they didn't get the word (Joe and Tink Bolster were enroute by train, via Colorado to see children, and learned of the cancellation only on their arrival at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio) or because they couldn't resist the attraction of the program the XXIII Committee laid out for us. Some, too, were in the area anyway. See the photo on the home page of most of those who were there, standing in front of the Alamo.
In any case, the XXIII Committee, Dave and Lois Smith, Bill Healy and Ted McAlister, did a wonderful job of resurrecting most of the program for the benefit of the twelve classmates and ten spouses who attended (indicated by asterisks on the list below). No flu cases have been reported among the 22. They were most appreciatve of the hospitable welcome and fine service they received - and fascinated by what they saw and learned about that part of the great state of Texas.
Now - on to Boston and Mini-Reunion XXIV, June 10-13, 2010.
5/20/09 -- Mini XXIII was canceled, but these happy classmates and spouses (and a few who didn't make it in this photo) got to San Antonio and found a warm and friendly welcome, led by host Dave Smith on the left and Lois Smith, fifth from right. The setting is the Alamo, just across the street from the wonderful Menger Hotel, headquarters for the Mini. For more on the Mini-Reunion and who was there, go to the Reunions Page and click on Mini XXIII. |

Dear Classmates:

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS: The Historic Menger Hotel at 204 Alamo Plaza, across the street from The Alamo, is our headquarters. The hotel has given us a special rate of $137.00 plus local taxes per night for either single or double occupancy for reservations made prior to March 30, 2009. These rates will apply three days before and three days after the mini-reunion based on availability. For reservations call 1-800-345-9285. Be sure to identify yourself as a member of the Princeton Class of 1952 Mini-Reunion. We have a limited number of rooms booked at this special rate that will be released after March 30, 2009 so we urge you to make your reservations as soon as possible.
TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING: Taxi fare from the San Antonio Airport to The Menger Hotel at 204 Alamo Plaza (8.89 miles) is $25.00 for a couple and $15.00 for a single person. Shuttle buses run from the airport to the hotel but make numerous stops. Taxi fare from the San Antonio railroad station to the Menger Hotel (0.73 miles) is $15.00 for a couple and $10.00 for a single person. If you want more information to arrange transportation we can furnish a telephone number and an email address. Valet parking at The Menger is $25.00 plus 8.125% tax per day. There are various city lots around the hotel from $5.00 - $18.00 a day.
We will have air conditioned buses to transport everyone from The Menger Hotel to all events on Friday and Saturday. The cost is included in the individual events.
